Everything Is Recorded: Friday Forever

he man behind this project is XL Recordings label boss Richard Russell, who invited a bunch of collaborators into the studio for Everything Is Recorded to experiment with them freely. Originally created as jam sessions only, this concept recently resulted in the second album “Friday Forever”. In contrast to the debut album, this one features rather unknown artists like Aitch, Flohio, Maria Somerville, Kean Kavanagh, A.K. Paul, James Massiah or Infinite Cole along with better-known names like Ghostface Killah (Wu-Tang Clans) or Penny Rimbaud (Crass). They make “Friday Forever” feel like a colourful compilation. Whether dub, hip-hop, soul, gospel, rnb or jazz, the twelve sample-based songs are barely tangible, but what unites them is an important thing: They bear witness to immediate creative expression and are far from commercial calculation – of course Russell doesn’t need that anymore, but it somehow
