Fly Fishing Guides in Hawaii Take on COVID-19

Looking Forward

COVID-19 and the uncertainty surrounding it, placed Hawai‘i’s fishing guides in an inauspicious situation. Suddenly, all of our future fishing trips disappeared and questions started to race through our minds: “How are we going to pay rent?”; “When is tourism coming back?”; “How are we going to buy food?” The bills didn’t just disappear like our bookings. We had zero income. How would we survive?

With an uncertain future at hand, a group of guides decided to do what we do best — fish! We teamed up and joined forces to promote fishing in Hawai‘i via YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook>. What we needed was content. With a few calls and text messages, we started our quest to promote fishing to the people, especially to the residents of Hawai‘
