Practical handgun shooting is a burgeoning sport, gaining much popularity worldwide as a fulfilling and rewarding activity, not only for individuals, but for families, ladies, youngsters, and the not-so-young, too.
Many of our readers would like to join a club and start practical handgun shooting, but are unsure where to begin, or how to go about it. Hence we have compiled the following overview of and guidelines to the sport, and the various handgun divisions.
The South African Practical Shooting Association (SAPSA) is the governing body for practical shooting in South Africa, established in 1976. SAPSA administers the sport, sanctions Level III matches (these are National Championship events) and tournaments, selects the national teams, (for which Protea colours are awarded through SASCOC) affiliates provinces, organises training, and maintains discipline and rules.
