KICK OFF: How have you been dealing with the effects of the coronavirus pandemic?
Wayne Sandilands: It has been a difficult situation in which we have had to adapt because the only other option is to go crazy and be frustrated. It is a real thing, but you must take it from day-to-day. Otherwise, if my family is healthy, then that is a positive. The club has tried its upmost best with regards to training and keeping us in good physical shape. The good is that you get to spend more time with family than you have would have normally. My wife has been joking that I am now a professional ‘sweeper’ because of how much I have been doing it at home!
How did a boy from Benoni end up at SuperSport United juniors?
When I was at Benoni Northerns there was a club named Balfour Park in our league. I think a year or two later they merged with SuperSport United and the coach of Balfour then stayed on to become the SuperSport Academy coach in our age group. He had scouted me playing for Benoni Northerns so he spoke to my parents about me joining the merger. It all made sense at the time because my aspirations were to become a professional and being at the SuperSport Academy afforded that chance. They trained in the afternoon at Balfour Park so I
