Ronwen Williams: What did I know as a 12-year-old? I knew nothing because I was coming into the unknown. I didn’t know anyone except for maybe Kermit [Erasmus] who I also only got to know at the [SuperSport] academy.
It was so difficult and a massive challenge for me. I was still a baby. I didn’t know anything, but I had a dream and that was the opportunity that I needed to come out of the bad environment that I come from.
I needed that one opportunity, but my mother wasn’t keen on me leaving home because I was still a baby. But my father said, ‘this is his ticket out of this place’. It wasn’t easy because there were many times when I cried and wanted to go home when things were not going well.
You know how mean kids can be in treating each badly and I was missing home. All my friends were living this nice life back home while I was locked up in a hostel with strict rules. But the sacrifice that I made to be
