“I have always loved a Double Wedding Ring quilt, and made my first about 12 years ago. Since then, I have subverted the pattern a few times to make modern versions of this traditional design. As there is a family wedding on the horizon, I decided to go back to the original version of the design, and this time to add appliqué details to make it even more special. I read many years ago that it was unlucky to include a heart motif on a quilt unless it was for a wedding. I’m not at all sure if this is true or just something I misheard, but it has always stayed with me and, as there is a nice open space in the centre of the rings, the inclusion of hearts and flowers seemed a good idea. Recently I was asked to design an appliqué panel for The Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles, and they specified fabrics from the Trinkets range in pale dusky pinks, blues, terracotta and yellow. I completely fell in love with this palette and the vintage style of the prints. I expanded the colours to include mauve, maroon and green and have hopefully recreated the look of an antique quilt (which I think will suit the young recipients). I love adding needle-turn
