HUNTING ADVENTURES

I WAS most interested to read your feature which mentioned the Peshawar Vale Hunt (“The best exotic hunt clubs”, 30 July).

My father was an Irishman, Colonel Charlie Kerans, who was a doctor with the Indian Medical Service and stationed in Pakistan. His off-duty time was spent racing, hunting with the Peshawar Vale and playing polo.

He became good friends with Charlie Johnson Payne (Snaffles) who always called my father “Birr” after his home town
