“Horses have given me a life I could never have dreamt of and I will be forever thankful to them”

I was small when my family left Italy for Mozambique. My parents are volunteer doctors. The agreement I made was that I would follow them if I could have a monkey, a horse and a dog. We ended up with two monkeys, a guinea pig, a multitude of dogs, some cats and, indeed, horses. So I got a great deal.

Mozambique was going through a civil war and there One of the only safe spaces for children to play outdoors was at the former riding school, where they used to train the army. They still had some horses and I learnt to ride on essentially wooden army saddles on native ponies.
