MATERIALS

• 30cm ( 3/8yd) cream linen or cotton/linen blend fabric

• 25cm ( 1/4yd) cream print fabric (folder lining)

• Scraps of Liberty print fabrics (appliqué, sewing case back and pincushion)

• 20cm ( 1/4yd) green stripe print fabric (binding)

• 25cm (10in) square of cream felt or doctor’s flannel

• Light fusible interfacing/ stabiliser such as Whisperweft or Weaveline

• Thin batting

• Pre-cut papers for English paper piecing. You will need three hexagons, 1/2in; eight hexagons, 3/8in; and two jewel shapes, 1in. Alternatively, use stiff paper to make your own shapes

• Template plastic

• DMC Stranded Embroidery Cotton in Pale Lavender (26), Medium Light Eggplant (28), Drab Brown (611), Light Drab Brown (612), Medium Topaz (726), Very Light Topaz (727), Medium Antique Blue (931), Light Antique Blue (932), Medium Grey Green (3052), Very Light Grey Green (3053), Black Brown (3371), Very Dark Dusty Rose (3731), Dusty Rose (3733), Very Dark Straw (3852)

• Two cream buttons 15mm (5/8in) diameter (folder closure)

• Two cream buttons 10mm ( 3/8in) diameter (pincushion)

• Small embroidery hoop

• DMC Perle 8 thread in Ecru

• Crewel embroidery and milliners/straw needles

• Crushed walnuts, fibre fill or your preferred filling for the pincushion

• B pencil or fine-point fabric-marking pen

• Water-soluble fabric glue

• Pinking shears

• Rotary cutter, ruler and mat

• Sewing machine

• General sewing supplies

Backstitch, backstitched chain stitch, buttonhole stitch, chain stitch, colonial knot, couching, detached chain (lazy daisy) stitch, fly
