1: A young lad does a double-take of the future at Shildon on August 28, 1975, as prototype HST set Nos. 43000/43001 gets ready to take part in the multi-loco cavalcade to mark 150 years of the Stockton & Darlington Railway.
2: Production HSTs entered service on the Western Region in 1976, and just over a year later on August 11, 1977, No. 43035 heads an up service to Paddington at Reading. The power car’s livery was seen as radical at the time in the era of Corporate Blue. No. 43034 should have been at the rear making up set 253017.
