Chocolate Sticky Date Cake with Butterscotch Sauce

Serves 8, Prep and Cook: 1 hour, 30 mins

1 ½ cups pitted dates, chopped (250g)
¾ tsp bicarbonate of soda
100g unsalted butter, chopped, at room temperature
¾ cup brown sugar, firmly packed
2 eggs, at room temperature
1 cup self-raising flour
¼ cup cocoa powder
100g dark cooking chocolate, coarsely chopped
Whipped cream, to serve
