In the summer of 2012, if you had ÂŁ499 to spare, a brand new 50cc scooter could be delivered to your door in a crate. You had to bolt on a few minor items like mirrors and battery, plus register it yourself. And if it went wrong, there was no friendly dealer to sort it out.
