Daphne (née du Maurier; 1907–89) was the daughter, which was immediately popular and has never gone out of print. A film adaption, directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starring Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine, was released in 1940. Daphne was appointed Dame Commander, Order of the British Empire, in 1969, but never used the title.
