BROADHEADS FOR MODERN BOWHUNTERS
Bowhunters love broadheads, and for good reason. Whether fixed or mechanical, the broadhead is what carves a wound channel and starts the hemorrhaging process. The biggest hurdle for bowhunters to overcome is often knowing which broadhead to choose. As with other accessory items, manufacturers have pushed the limits of design and developed a plethora of razorsharp offerings. Recently, while visiting a local archery shop, an employee had over 200 packages of heads from 13 different manufactures spread across a table. It was like a broadhead smorgasbord. There were front- and rear-deploying expandables, fixed blades in two-, three- and four-blade offerings as well as a number of growing-in-popularity hybrids. It was a bit overwhelming.
So, just how do you go about finding the head that’s right for you? Side of saving some greenbacks and doing some testing, I recommend digesting all the literature you can about heads that are peaking your interest. Shop owners are also a great resource. The good ones shoot the heads they stock and should be able to answer questions in greater detail.
