The plot and cold of it

OVER the past few months I have become increasingly grateful to two food sources at our house: the garden and the chest freezer.

Along with the pigeon, slugs and beetles, I am delighted with the results of all the extra effort and time that has gone into the veg patch this summer. In fact, in times like these it is so satisfying eating home-grown produce and such a relief not to rely wholly on the shops; I am even able to overlook the occasional hole in a leaf or missing patch from a row.
