Clarkson has so many credits in the bank, there’s never questions asked when the Hawks have a rare spell in the wilderness. His mission has always been to prepare a team not just for a finals tilt, but one to go all the way. With four flags and a winning percentage of nearly 62 even after 351 games, it works.

Despite missing on finals after having finished the previous season’s home and away rounds in the top four, Hawthorn goes into 2020 with comparatively bright prospects. The Hawks finished last season well, winning six of their last eight games. They’ll have Brownlow medallist Tom Mitchell, who missed all of last year, back in the mix.
