T’S BEEN 12 YEARS since Danny Boyle’s slowly but surely became an awards-season-sweeper, box-officeobliterator and global sensation. Yet today it still sits firmly in our hearts, a hopeful story about soulmates that culminates in a gloriously uplifting dance sequence on the platform of Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. Freida Pinto, in her film debut, plays Latika, who along with Dev Patel’s champion Jamal, leads a rowdy band of dancers to the tune, written especially for the film. Speaking with from her home in Austin, Pinto reflects on that joyful closing number, as well as why messages of faith and holding onto the ones you love mean so much to so many.
