DROP SPINDLES FOR CHEVY 454 SS PICKUP
Q:I envy your knowledge of all things related to automotive issues. It is comforting to know that there are people like you who can narrow down the focus and put problems into perspective, saving readers countless hours of frustrating research and trial and error. What has been troubling me is the issue of the suspension components on the Chevrolet 454 SS pickup truck. I know that the differential is from the 3/4-ton, but it seems that little is understood about the front steering, suspension, and brakes. I have the opportunity to purchase a pair of dropped front spindles that are advertised as being used on the 1989 through mid-1990’s pickup truck, but every ad that I see for dropped spindles states that they will not fit on the 454 SS. What is the difference between the SS and a regular Chevy of that model and those years? I was told that if you changed the rotors from 1.125-inch to the 1-inch, then the spindles will work, but I would imagine that the calipers would have to be changed also. Is there an easier way to accomplish lowering
