Seeing two heartbeats on the sonographer’s screen, it felt as though my own heart stopped for a moment. Looking at my fiancé, and the huge smile lighting up his face, I could hardly believe what was happening. It's not that I wasn't happy, I really was, it was that just four months earlier, Ross, then 32, had been a stranger, and I was a single mum bringing up five-year-old twin boys on my own.
