‘High heels and summer squalls do not go together’
I love the British summer – it’s my favourite day of the year. Every spring, I buy little strappy sandals and wispy, floaty summer frocks, only to end up shivering in windswept fields and rain-drenched marquees. With teeth chattering like castanets, and stalactites forming in both nostrils, I finally, tentatively, ask my host if we could retreat indoors to defrost. They invariably look at me as, the British see as a charming al fresco soiree.
