In a Galaxie OF ITS OWN

Like most guys who write car stories, I’ll start this one the same way. I fell in love with my first car, a 1967 Ford Galaxie 500 fastback. It was bronze and had the 289-cid V-8 engine with an automatic transmission.

I bought it on Aug. 20, 1968, a couple of months before I got out of the Army and just before I turned 21. It had 18,000 miles and I thought it was a beautiful car, although woefully underpowered.
