COLORFUL WHISPERS

IT WAS OCTOBER 2010.

GORILLAZ were playing a show at Denver’s Wells Fargo Theatre in support of the Plastic Beach album. Joining Gorillaz mastermind Damon Albarn onstage were hiphop legends De La Soul, two members of the Clash (Mick Jones and Paul Simonon), the (now late) Bobby Womack and the Pharcyde’s Bootie Brown.

Nestled in between the star-studded lineup was Yukimi Nagano of the Swedish electro-pop band Little Dragon, who provides the ethereal, song-stealing vocals on the Plastic Beach cut “Empire Ants.” Despite her diminutive stature, Nagano’s presence loomed large over the audience as her airy vocals soared into the air.
