Bring the outside in

Adding a conservatory, orangery or garden room is a popular way to create more space in a home, and a suitable option for enlarging many period properties. Often considered a more straightforward alternative to a typical extension, a glazed addition can be completely separate from the main house, or a fully open-plan, flexible room that can serve as a kitchen, living or dining area.

It is widely believed that while a conservatory is idyllic in mild weather, it is too hot to sit in during the height of summer and too cold in the depths of winter. With thoughtful planning and design, however, you can have a room that is not only usable, but enjoyable, all year round.
