WEST GIPPSLAND GETAWAY

MY wife and I moved to West Gippsland, Victoria, in 2002. After spending seven years in New Zealand it was finally time to come home and, if I wanted to continue my career in the dairy industry, West Gippsland was where it was at.

I didn’t really appreciate it at time but, as well as being perfect for dairy cows, West Gippsland was also a perfect place to settle for someone keen on fishing. For starters there are boat ramps into both Western Port and Port Phillip less than an hour’s drive to the west, while the fish-rich coastlines of South and East Gippsland aren’t very much further down the highway.

For me, though, it is the freshwater angling opportunities of the region that beckon most strongly. At the risk of attracting too much competition, I’d like to tell you
