Why men choose to become SINGLE DADS

Mum, dad and 2.4 children hasn’t been the archetypal family set-up for decades, with stepfamilies, single mums and same-sex couples becoming increasingly common. And now there’s another emerging family dynamic: a growing number of men choosing to become solo fathers, whether that's through surrogacy, adoption or fostering.

While there are currently no reliable statistics to document the number of men starting families on their own, recent data from the Office for National Statistics shows there are 2.9 million lone-parent families in the UK, many of which experts believe are men. And yet, people still react with surprise when a man announces plans to have children alone, even though they wouldn’t question a woman’s choice to go
