Noël,the most delicious season in Monaco

For centuries Monaco’s ruling Grimaldi dynasty has been the proud keeper of time-honoured traditions which make Christmas in the principality a truly elegant and exciting affair, from the mouth-watering food to the festive decor that illuminates the heart of Monte Carlo. Every year the royal family hosts a party for local children, a custom started by Princess Grace, who regarded Christmas as a season of “hope, healing and truth”. Today, it is her son Prince Albert and his wife Charlene who welcome the eager youngsters to the Palace along with Père Noël (Father Christmas), for an afternoon of presents and treats, including hot chocolate made to a secret recipe.

The fun at, soft boiled eggs with caviar and cream of artichoke soup. And of course, no Monegasque Christmas feast would be complete without a delicious Mediterrean-style turkey, scented with lemon and herbs. But, the star of the celebration is the (Yule log), said to date back to the time of Charles III, whose master pastry chef, Pierre Lacam, created the chocolate-laden treat in 1877.
