King Cake Magic

IT'S THE MOST wonderful time of the year … in Louisiana, at least!

January 6 marks the beginning of Carnival season each year, and with it comes all manner of merriment, including our favorite seasonal delicacy: king cake. Throughout the weeks leading up to Fat Tuesday (which falls on February 25 this year), we’ll undoubtedly be picking up king cakes from local bakeries and shops, but we also look forward to baking some of our own. This versatile Danish-style dough is a fantastic base recipe to get you started, and it can be filled with anything from traditional cream cheese and cinnamon to decadent chocolate or a fanciful take on nectar cream, a classic New Orleans flavor.
