Damon Hypersport: EV Superbike That Transforms on the Fly
CANADIAN INNOVATORS DAMON and BlackBerry, the makers of some of the most popular mobile phones in the 2000s, have built a production electric superbike that looks like an absolute scorcher on paper. Unveiled at the CES 2020 in Las Vegas, the Damon has the number 200 popping up all over its spec sheet. Here’s the lowdown: it produces 200 hp and 200 Nm of torque, offers a range of 200 miles (322 km), and attains a top speed of 200 mph (322 km/h). It weighs 200 kilograms and comes with a price tag of £20,000, which equates to a fairly reasonable Rs 18.50 lakh.
Impressed already? There’s more. It does 0-60 mph in less than three seconds, comes with a proprietary CoPilot system that uses a combination of HD cameras, radar, haptic feedback, and light-emitting diodes (LED) to offer 360-degree advance warning. And that’s still not all. The Hypersport also comes with something called SHIFT which allows you to transform your riding position from supersport to a commuter-friendly one on the fly thanks to a four-point, electronically controlled adjustability system. There was even a souped-up limited-edition lot of 25 bikes with fancy componentry such as Öhlins suspension, Brembo brakes, and a carbon-fibre single-sided swing-arm available, but those are sold out already. If this is where the future of the two-wheeler market is headed, we can definitely get behind it.
