Jane Clarke , a leading nutritionist in the UK, declared in her article ‘Why I am wild about game’ that it is healthier to consume smaller quantities of healthy game meat than to consume larger volumes of cheaper meat derived from low-protein meat with shockingly high levels of fat and salt. Furthermore, less drugs and poisons are used in game meat production, resulting in meat with fewer residues emanating from tick dips, anthelmintics (parasite control), hormone treatments and administering antibiotics for bacterial infections and diseases.
This comment was made in 2008 during the thriving times of SA exporting to the EU, also showing the hefty prices European consumers were willing to pay for SA game meat. Being in a country where we import up to 48% of our local meat
