Treat surface rust

Preventing surface corrosion can seem like a losing battle. Everything from your classic car’s wheelnuts and brakes to its brightwork, wheelarches and sills can become infected with the brown stuff — even on brand-new components.

There’s no quick fix to treating light surface corrosion and if you want to use your classic Ford on a regular basis, it’s essential to keep a lookout for emerging rust and treat it when it appears. Moisture in the air will always be a threat to your classic Ford’s metalwork. Road dirt will chip away at paint and rust protection. Heat cycles and the abrasive action on brake components means that brake discs are hard to keep rust-free. Manufacturers of cheap components often can’t factor in the extra time required during production to prevent corrosion.
