PHUMEZA LANGA is a mom to a one-year-old girl, works full-time at a corporate company and freelances in the evenings. She also has a passion project, a weekly live Twitter chat called #SistaHoodHour.
‘I started freelancing about four years ago and for the past two, I’ve been building a name for myself as a writer and communications consultant. My full-time job in corporate helped pay the bills, but I wanted something on the side to add much-needed income to our household,’ Phumeza explains.
She’s always been passionate about writing and started this journey with the aim of eventually becoming self-employed – or, at least, able to structure her hours more flexibly. ‘I want to be present for my little one and pursuing my side hustles will also allow me to do what I love each day.’
As a feminist, Phumeza hosts a weekly live Twitter chat on Wednesday afternoons called #SistaHoodHour, a passion project aimed at empowering women. Started two years ago, the show provides women with a platform to share and discuss issues such as financial fitness, sexual wellness, mental health, social media and the law. Guest experts are also invited to contribute to the discussions.
