Two decades: one object

“ITS UNIQUE STRUCTURE GIVES THE PRODUCT A CERTAIN LIGHTNESS WHICH IS DIFFICULT TO ACHIEVE WITH TIMBER.”

DESIGNER: Simon James

FAVOURITE OBJECT: Body Raft, David Trubridge, 2000

I still remember the first time I viewed the Body Raft at an exhibition on High Street around 18 years ago. I think this was just before David showed it in Milan and Giulio Cappellini negotiated the rights to manufacture it. I was drawn to its scale and its repetition of a wooden form; its unique structure gives the product a certain lightness which is difficult to achieve with timber. As a young designer/manufacturer at the time, I found the international success of this product very inspiring.

DESIGNER: Bec Dowie

FAVOURITE OBJECT: Spade Chair, Faye
