Tom Dixon
I met Tom many years ago in his London workshop, thanks to the suggestion of a mutual friend, Franca Sozzani, then editor of Vogue Italia. Tom was mainly making prototypes of metal objects, but I was struck by the ‘S-Chair’, a beautiful metal and straw chair. The ‘S-Chair’ has become an icon of contemporary design, exhibited in major museums, and is certainly the product that best connects me to Dixon.
Marc Newson
I once saw a small picture of a café, made by Newson in Sydney, in the pages of a magazine and I really liked the shape of a handle he used for the main entrance. I invited him to come to Italy and that’s where our collaboration started. Of all of Marc’s pieces, my favourite product is the ‘Wooden Chair’, which I had the pleasure of presenting to Queen Elizabeth II during her official visit to Italy.
Jasper Morrison
During a visit to London in 1987, I visited an exhibition at Aram where prototypes designed by different designers were on display.
