Staying Connected

According to a Nielsen poll in 2017, the average mobile phone user spends around four hours a day on their phone. And, interestingly, the least common activity users participate in is talking.

We’ve come a long way since the launch of the first Apple Smartphone in 2007. Not surprisingly, mobile app usage has grown every year since, with desktop browsing reducing with the introduction of tablets, smartphones and smart watches.

Facebook is 15 years old this year; LinkedIn is 16 and Twitter is hitting puberty at 13. While it’s acknowledged that the iPad, and tablets in general, revolutionised flight planning for aviators, it’s also fair to say that the rise in social media apps and platforms has significantly broadened the way pilots digest their information and entertainment.

In an attempt to streamline the extraordinary volume of social media available for pilots, Australian Flying presents part two of its Internet Resource Guide: Social Media.

Facebook, Inc. is an American online social media and social networking service company based in Menlo Park, California. Its website was launched in February 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg, along with several of his Harvard College students and roommates. It is considered one of the Big Four technology companies along with Amazon, Apple and Google. In 2017, one quarter of the entire planet had a Facebook account.
