FOXTEL HAS HAD an interesting history when it comes to streaming video. Starting out as a pay TV service in 1995, Foxtel’s first real foray into internet streaming happened in 2013 with the launch of movie (and later TV) streaming service Presto. But the service failed to take off, eventually shutting down in 2017. Alongside Presto, the company also launched Foxtel Play – a cord-free internet-dependent version of its pay TV service, giving users the ability to pick from an on-demand library plus stream live TV to any device. Eventually rebranding to Foxtel Now, the service has grown to become what it is today, now competing against the likes of Netflix and Stan, albeit with some key points of difference.
