New Year resolutions are the enemy. I never stick to them. I feel guilty about them from around 5 January until about Labour Weekend, and then I start thinking about next year’s vows. Starting a new year feeling low-level anxiety about promises you’re worried you’ll break is counterproductive. My resolution recently, which has been largely successful, is:
