In North Carolina, the legal age for marriage is 18 years old. Those under 18 must have parental consent. Couples must apply for and sign the license together at the Register of Deeds office. A Social Security number and a driver’s license (and sometimes a birth certificate) are required as proof of identification. Residency and blood tests are not required. If previously married, the bride or groom may be asked to provide the appropriate documents regarding the divorce or death. There is no waiting period to obtain the license, which is valid for 60 days. The fee for a marriage license is $60;
