Before rock ’n’ roll, before the blues, the folk music of the British Isles was laying the foundations for what we all recognise as modern guitar music. A resurgence of interest in this body of songs led to a new generation of guitarists experimenting with folk’s ancient melodies and themes in the 1960s, and was a vital component in the evolution of many a world-eating rock sensation (we’re looking at you, Led Zeppelin).
