BLUE NOTEWORTHY

Splendid Blue Note article [September issue] – a big thank you to Peter Watts and John Lewis for putting this together. The praise you give Rudy Van Gelder for his recording techniques is well deserved. When you hear the poor recording quality of some of the greatest ’60s music and compare it with his early ’50s work, could it be said that he was the George Martin of his day?

With the help of the fabulous discography on Wikipedia and armed with Amazon Prime Music (other providers are available), there is so much great Blue Note music to explore at a minimal cost, so I am a happy man. Alan English, via email
