he question that hangs over this and many of the other early films by the from 1968 arrived soon after the director’s most well-loved works: 1966’s and 1967’s . In all three films Janscó takes advantage of his homeland’s eerily flat terrain which is so vast, open and empty that it serves as a kind of open prison. As with those films, explores the crooked power dynamics between fascistic soldiers and the crestfallen proletariat who are mocked and manipulated.
