Life was different 40 years ago. The pinnacle of technology was the Sony Walkman, the average house cost under £14,000 and you had the dubious privilege of buying a Happy Meal for the first time. In 1979 strikes were popular, the Provisional IRA was rampant and Margaret Thatcher started her first term in office. On a brighter note, England retained the Ashes, winning the series 5-1 Down Under, author Douglas Adams published The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and Fawlty Towers was on the box. And there was always the local pub offering solace with beer at 35p a pint.
It was in a pub that the Knowle Shoot was dreamt up by three or four like-minded friends. They were in the habit of lunching together and, as shooters will, talking about game shooting. Now, none of this group belonged to a syndicate or had the opportunity of shooting
