LOOK TO THE SKIES

RWANDA HAS COME a long, long way in the 25 years since its horrific genocide. The country now boasts universal healthcare, a life expectancy of 67 (higher than the 63 years of the average South African) and a parliament that’s nearly two-thirds female. Despite these advances, the 18th-poorest country in the world probably isn’t exactly where you’d expect to find an advanced network of delivery drones.

However, since 2016, California-based automated logistics company Zipline has been working together with Rwanda’s Ministry of Health to use drones to deliver life-saving medical supplies to patients in outof- the-way rural areas who would otherwise not receive them in time.
