This is the greatest time of year, with new flowers emerging every time you walk outside. Snowdrops are well on their way. Grow the whopper ‘Sam Arnott’ if you want to pick for a vase, with scented crocus (‘Blue Pearl’, ‘Snow Bunting’ and ‘Cream Beauty’) flowering just behind them, which are beautiful cut for a mini jug or egg cup on the kitchen table.

Cherry and crab apples are coming out now too in cumulonimbus clouds. Almost as lovely as blossom on the branches are the natural confetti carpets of petals among the daises after a night of spring winds. The pure white blossoms are to me the prettiest, with Prunus ‘TaiHaku’ and Malus ‘Dartmouth’ my firm favourites. With any blossom, cut a single bough, then sear
