I think a big part of the ‘China apprehension’ stems from the early days when some unscrupulous dealers imported inferior products and didn’t offer decent backup, which saw some consumers unfortunately burn their fingers.
So to put our minds at ease and show South Africans they really mean business, GWM, the parent company which sells brands under the GWM and Haval nomenclature in South Africa, invited us to China to help us gain a better understanding of what they are about and where they are heading.
Our visit to China included trips to the Haval Research and Development centre, the factory and the Baoding proving ground. To say the Chinese are investing in improving their cars is an understatement; they are doing everything they can. Outside many of their offices are the words “Improving little by little every day”.
The Research and Development Centre included a NVH semi-anechoic chamber where the ambient noise levels are as low as 20db, perfect for the improvement of automotive acoustic quality and comfort. There was also a meter
