The first time I saw Jeremy Nash, he was entering the White Salmon grocery store. His friend Jackson Singleton, a student of mine, called out a greeting across the parking lot. It was early summer, prime time for wandering kayakers. Jeremy, like many, had landed in White Salmon. I listened to the boys’ exploits on the Little White, the Green Truss, and other class V classics of the Gorge before thinking to ask Jeremy’s age. He was 15.
