At home on the road

Our family has been travelling around South Africa for the past 18 months: me, my husband Pieter and our children Charma (8) and Declan (12). We started our journey in April 2018, at my father-in-law’s farm near Newcastle in KZN, and we’ve visited so many places since then, from St Lucia to Hondeklip Bay.

How does it work? We set up a base where my husband and I can work (we do payroll administration for a few companies) and where we can home-school our children. Many self-catering units can be hired for lower rates if you stay for longer than 28 days. Our lives go on as normal, and in our free time we explore the area we’re in. We’ve seen some of the amazing places in the country in a very affordable way.
