Despite boasting a reputation as a robust species and one that often outsmarts anglers, yellowtail kingfish are still at high risk of depletion if we don’t look after our fisheries. This is obviously governed by fishery management and the laws in place surrounding minimum size and daily bag limits but as recreational anglers we have a responsibility to uphold and part of that is only taking what we need. Sure, I still like to keep the odd smaller legal size king from time to time as they’re certainly great tucker. In fact I’d even go as far to say that I prefer them hands down over tuna any day of the week as far as sashimi goes.
