Riflescopes have been available to hunters for about 100 years. There were some earlier models, but availability and price generated the want and need for these optics in the 1920s. William R. Weaver set out to put a scope on every hunting rifle by providing a high-quality product at an affordable price — and it worked.
Buying a scope 30 years ago was simple. It was easy to compare different models because there weren’t many choices for reticles, magnification or glass. Hunters today have so many riflescope options that it can be mind boggling. What size tube do you need? What reticle covers most of your hunting needs? How much magnification is best? Do you want to add electronics to the equation?
A hunter needs to ask some tough questions before setting foot in a sporting goods store shopping for a new riflescope. Fact is, there are more options online nowadays than the average store could stock. And there are distinct differences between the $500 models
