ACTORS have enjoyed a cinematic tipple since the early days of movie-making. Who can forget the star cocktail of the iconic tearjerker Casablanca? A highlight of a visit to Rick’s Bar Americain, the French 75, was a combo of gin, lemon juice and simple syrup shaken over ice, strained and topped up with champagne. Bogart’s character boasted that downing a couple was like being hit with the force of a World War I French artillery gun.
Way back then, movies only featured the odd drink as a prop or plot point unless, starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin as two reluctant housemates whose husbands announced they were gay and then married each other.
