Strawberry Fool

One of my early gardening memories is of coming back from a party in Oxford in a white dress with bare shoulders – it must have been May – and realising there was going to be a late frost. I went back out into the garden in the small hours (still in the white frock), and covered the strawberry flowers with fleece.
